The Cisco Certification Tracks

Cisco has revamped its certification tracks with some landmark changes. This is the company’s efforts to map the certification to the latest technology trends in the communication and information technology industry. So here is how the new Cisco Certification track works:

CCT (Cisco Certified Technician)The basic certification is called the Cisco Certified Technician (CCT). The CCT certification will help develop the skills to diagnose, restore, repair, and replace critical Cisco networking and system devices at customer locations. These certified Technicians work closely with the Cisco’s Technical Assistance Center to deal with support incidents quickly and efficiently. The Certification has two specialization and they are as follows:

CCT Datacenter

CCT Routing & Switching

The next level is the CCNA Exam (200-301) paper. Unlike the earlier CCNA exam where there were specializations that included Routing and Switching, Security, Wireless, Service Provider, Datacenter, Collaboration, CCDA and Cloud. But now there is one common CCNA Exam (200-301) and no more specializations at the CCNA level except the Cisco Certified DevNet Associate.

After the CCNA, we have the CCNP Certification and here it branches out into different certification ladders and specializations,

PLEASE NOTE: The CCNP paper for each Ladder has one CORE Paper and then Specialization Papers. The CORE paper is mandatory and the candidate can choose any of the other papers to specialize in and this would award a CCNP Certificate with a specialization.

For example let us take the CCNP Enterprise which is the base and foundation ladder: It has the following papers:

The above paper is the CORE and MANDATORY paper. Once this is done, then the candidate need to decide on one of the specializations / concentrations as below:

300-410 ENARSI : Implementing Cisco Enterprise Advanced Routing and Services

300-415 ENSDWI : Implementing Cisco SD-WAN Solutions

300-420 ENSLD : Designing Cisco Enterprise Networks

300-425 ENWLSD : Designing Cisco Enterprise Wireless Networks

300-430 ENWLSI : Implementing Cisco Enterprise Wireless Networks

300-435 ENAUTO : Implementing Automation for Cisco Enterprise Solutions

On pass one of the Concentration exam, let us say for example ENARSI the candidate gets the following certification:

CCNP Enterprise and also Cisco Certified Specialist – specialization in Enterprise Advanced Infrastructure Implementation

PLEASE NOTE: The ENCOR paper serves not just as the basis for the CCNP certification but also as the qualifying exam for the CCIE lab exam.
